Okay - this one’s got me scratching my head. We’re trying to automate a cleanup report for HIPAA compliance, but the recording retention endpoint is acting up. It’s throwing a 400 Bad Request even when the parameters look spot on. FWIW, this is happening in our production org in the Tokyo region.
Environment & Setup
SDK: PureCloudPlatformClient (Python) v2.x
Endpoint: GET /api/v2/recordings/retention/query
Auth: Client Credentials Grant
Steps Taken
Defined retentionThresholdDays as an integer (tried 30 and 90).
Verified that the service account has the necessary Recording and Analytics permissions.
Attempted a direct call via the API Explorer, which also failed with the same 400 error.
Here’s the snippet we’re using:
try:
# Trying to pull retention data for 30 days
res = api.recordings.get_recording_retention_query(retentionThresholdDays=30)
print(res)
except Exception as e:
print(f"Error: {e}")
The weird part is that other analytics queries are working fine. YMMV, but I’ve tried adjusting the pageSize to 25 to see if it’s a payload volume issue, but no luck.
Does the retentionThresholdDays parameter require a specific format or a string instead of an int? Also, is there a hidden limit on how far back we can query this?
Is the request being sent as a GET or a POST? Apologies if this is a novice question, as I’m still learning the specific API requirements for recording data. The user experience for compliance reporting relies on a precise data pull, and a 400 error often suggests the server is rejecting the request format.
From what I’ve seen, the /api/v2/recordings/retention/query endpoint does not allow a request body. If the Python SDK is accidentally passing parameters in the body instead of the query string, it’ll trigger that error. Try ensuring the retentionThresholdDays is passed strictly as a query parameter.
# Example of correct query parameter usage
api.get_recordings_retention_query(retentionThresholdDays=30)
Are you passing retentionThresholdDays as a string? Fun one today. We saw the SDK cast types weirdly → 400 error. It’s a MASSIVE waste of execution time debugging the wrong layer when it’s just a type mismatch. Check the payload size too; huge pageSize values spike memory overhead on the client side.
PureCloudPlatformClient is picky with retentionThresholdDays. It must be an integer in the query string. If the Python code passes it as a float or string, the API returns 400. Try casting it explicitly before the call.
# Ensure integer type
params = {'retentionThresholdDays': int(days_value)}
api.recordings.query_retention(**params)
