Studio REST Proxy - 500 Internal Server Error on Contact Data

500 Internal Server Error on REST Proxy call to /services/v1/contacts/{contactId}/data. Studio script is hanging on the SNIPPET action.

CXone Studio SDK. Tried swapping to a different proxy endpoint and shortening the timeout to 2s, but still getting the same result. This is blocking a prod migration for 3 queues.

The 500 Internal Server Error during a Contact Data request typically indicates a malformed request body or a timeout during the data retrieval process within the Studio environment. Based on similar reports in previous community posts, this often occurs when the REST Proxy is unable to resolve the contactId due to a race condition during the initial contact event.

The most effective resolution is to implement a retry logic within the Studio script. Rather than a direct call, wrap the SNIPPET action in a loop that checks for the 500 status code.

// Example logic for the REST Proxy handler
if (response.status === 500) {
 // Implement a 500ms delay before retry
 setTimeout(() => {
 executeRestProxyCall(contactId);
 }, 500);
}

It’s also worth verifying that the request headers are explicitly defined. We’ve seen cases where the omission of the Accept header leads to server-side failures during the serialization of contact data.

{
 "headers": {
 "Accept": "application/json",
 "Content-Type": "application/json"
 },
 "method": "GET",
 "url": "/services/v1/contacts/{contactId}/data"
}

If the issue persists, check the contact record’s state. If the contact has already been disconnected or transitioned to a different state, the proxy will return a 500 instead of a 404 in certain legacy versions of the SDK.
