Speed up creation of "places" in configuration manager?

I’ve defined a range of extensions in the configuration manager. That was easy and fast.

The hard part is defining the “places” that refer to them. I can’t find any way to create these except individually: create each place, then right-click on it, create new shortcut to DN, drill down through the switch, the DNs, the extensions, and scroll down to the extension I want it to point to. And “View > Options > Make new in properties of existing objects” doesn’t work here.

Since I have hundreds of these to create, it’s a giant pain in the ass, not to mention a huge waste of time. I should send Genesys a bill for the time I’m spending on this. It’s sysadmin with crayons.

Does anyone have a faster technique?

You can create XML data in Excel and then import the XML in CME through one of the wizards.

Interesting notion, but we don’t use XML. We use a SQLServer database. Also, when working in “places”, there’s nowhere to do an import – i.e., the CME doesn’t offer an import function.

What Wyn means is that CME using a Wizard can import data to the Database (whatever motor you use) and then populate it correctly with this XML file.

It’s not obvious how to do this, because I had already dug around and looked for it. The wizard doesn’t do this, either for “install” or “configure” in “places”. Maybe it’s somewhere else altogether. If so, that isn’t obvious, either, because I looked for it, too. It’s nowhere in the GUI that I can find.

You have to install the Configuration Import Wizard for this to work.

Okay. I’d never heard of it. I’ll look for it, download it, and try it out.

You can create place and extension at the same time by using wizard, only at that time that you can create the association between the two automatically. If it’s possible, I will try to recreate extension again.
