Redundant License Manager

Hello all, how are you?

I was tinkering with license manager and this is when I saw that license manager actually has a redundancy feature which allows you to define one master server and two slave servers all using the same license file as the master server.

The reason why I am really interested about this feature is because this would mean that TServer in G5 would no longer crash each time license manager is brough down, and instead, TServer as well as every other licenseound application by default should go to the slave servers.

License Manager is actually a Globe Trotter product, and they have some docs on how to implement the redundancy. But, the most useful I found so far was actually here:

Unfortunately, I am only starting to test it. Did any one already try it? Did it work? I would really like to hear if anyone has already done it.

Trying to cluster (NT) license manager has never worked for me yet.

I have 2 dongles now with 1 license file.

Has anyone successfully clustered license manager?

Clustering license manager should be a snap.

If you have two dongles installed on Machine A and Machine B then you should try to the following:

symposium_link host confserv_hostname port 2020 app TServer_Name l 7260@Machine_A:7260@MachineB (you need to replace “:” with “;” if you are running it on NT)

If you do this, your tserver will start with the primary license, and if it does not work or if license manager stops, your tserver will switch to backup one.
