How to set up ring groups vs ACD queues for small teams

For our small team of 8 agents, should we use ring groups or ACD queues?

Ring groups seem simpler but I’ve been told they lack reporting. ACD queues feel like overkill for 8 people. What’s the practical recommendation?

Use ACD queues even for small teams. Here’s why:

  • Ring groups have NO historical reporting, NO wrap-up codes, and NO skills-based routing
  • ACD queues provide full analytics, queue SLA tracking, and agent performance metrics
  • If your team grows from 8 to 20, you won’t need to rebuild your routing architecture

The setup effort difference is minimal. ACD queues take 15 minutes to configure and give you 10x the operational visibility.
